The Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) is a highly competitive engineering entrance exam in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and serves as the primary gateway for admission into various undergraduate engineering programs at prestigious institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other government-funded technical institutes. JEE Main is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to IITs. JEE Main is a two-paper exam:

1. Paper 1: This paper is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programs like B.E./B.Tech. It includes subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
2. Paper 2: This paper is conducted for admission to B.Arch and B.Planning courses. It includes subjects like Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test.

JEE (Main) is being conducted in the following modes:

• Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode ONLY.
• Paper 2A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen and paper (offline) mode, to be attempted on a drawing sheet of A4 size.
• Paper 2B (B. Planning): Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode only.

JEE (Main) is being conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
The option of language for Question Paper should be exercised carefully while filling up the Application Form online as it cannot be changed at a later stage.

JEE Main is held twice in a year, namely in January and April providing candidates with the flexibility to choose to either attempt it once (any of the two sessions) or attempt it twice wherein the best score between the two will be considered. The scores obtained in JEE Main are also used for admission to various state-level engineering colleges and private institutions.

Successful candidates who wish to pursue specialised engineering programs in IITs can further appear for the JEE Advanced, which is the entrance examination for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
