An astounding new development put into practice by IIT Jodhpur to make engineering education more inclusive has declared that it will introduce the BTech programme in Hindi, along with English. This program, ratified by the Ministry of Education, will start from the academic year 2024-25. Admission to this program shall be given based on the candidate’s JEE Advanced 2024 result, ensuring that students from diverse linguistic backgrounds can pursue their engineering dreams without the language barrier.
From the beginning of this academic year, IIT Jodhpur will officially launch two distinct classes for the BTech programme with language reference. As for the sections students will have the choice between Hindi and English ones. However, students of different sections will be taught by the same instructors, which enhances the quality and stringency of the education they receive. This is a significant step to improving inclusion and is geared towards helping the students to understand as well as interrelate with the course content in the required language.
The Director of IIT Jodhpur, Professor Avinash Kumar Agarwal, stressed on the necessity of this step in connection with the NEP 2020.
He said, “Delivering the first-year courses both in Hindi and English will help the students to understand the content and interact with it as well, thereby making their transition to the academic climate of IIT Jodhpur easier.”

Among the main reasons for pursuing such a measure, is, for instance, the language barrier revealed in the majority of students coming from non-English speaking countries. In India, a handsome number of students who get through the JEE Advanced examination are SC/ST or study in Hindi medium schools. To these students, the switch to the system of english medium instruction can be a bar to learning and may have a negative influence on their academic achievement.
